Terms of Service

The service

Each week HeadLingo collects an issue of news and rewrites it as reading material in English or Chinese at three levels, with sentence-by-sentence translations and dictionary definitions. Reading material, translations and some definitions are generated by AI from news reports and may contain mistakes. They are for language learning only and shouldn't be relied on as statements of fact or professional advice; every article links to the original reports.

Your account

You can use the app without signing in. On the web, saving items and subscribing require Sign in with Apple. The same Apple ID is the same account on the web and in the app. Keep your Apple ID secure; you are responsible for activity under your account.

Free use

Without a membership you can read the weekly news, switch between the three levels, read past issues and save articles (signed in). Sentence translations and word definitions can each be used 10 times for free in total; this allowance does not reset.

HeadLingo Pro membership

• Plans: subscriptions that renew automatically every month or every six months. The price, including any applicable taxes, is shown before you pay.
• What you get: unlimited sentence translations and word definitions, and saving words and sentences. Sign in with the same Apple ID to use it on both the web and the app.
• Payment: on the web through RevenueCat and Stripe; in the app through Apple.
• Automatic renewal: your subscription renews at the end of each period at the then-current price unless you cancel before it renews.
• Cancelling: for web subscriptions, use Manage subscription in the account menu; for app subscriptions, use iPhone Settings → Apple Account → Subscriptions. After you cancel, your membership continues until the end of the period you have paid for.
• Price changes: we will tell you in advance, and a new price applies from your next renewal. You can cancel before it takes effect.
• When your membership ends, you can still view and remove the words and sentences you saved, but you can't save new ones.

Refunds

• Web subscriptions, including automatic renewals, can be refunded in full within 14 days of each payment. Email wangchengfengx@gmail.com with your account email or payment receipt. Your membership ends when the refund is issued.
• This covers the 14-day right to cancel that consumers in the UK and the EU have for online subscriptions.
• Refunds for subscriptions bought in the app through Apple are handled by Apple under its own rules: https://reportaproblem.apple.com
• Nothing in these terms affects your other legal rights.

Acceptable use

Please don't scrape content or call our APIs in bulk with scripts or other automated means, work around free-use or rate limits, reverse engineer or interfere with the service, or use HeadLingo for anything unlawful. We may limit or suspend accounts that break these rules.

Content and intellectual property

HeadLingo's reading material, translations, interface and software belong to us or our licensors. They are for your personal learning only; please don't republish them or use them commercially without permission. News facts come from the original reports linked in each article. Part of the Chinese dictionary data comes from CC-CEDICT and is used under the CC BY-SA 4.0 licence.

Changes to the service

We may change, add or stop features. If we stop offering memberships, we will tell you in advance and refund the unused time you have paid for.

Our responsibility to you

If we break these terms, we are responsible for loss you suffer that is a foreseeable result of that breach. We are not responsible for loss that is not foreseeable, or for business losses. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that the law does not allow us to exclude or limit, such as for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud.

Ending your use

You can stop using HeadLingo and delete your account at any time (see the Privacy Policy). If you seriously or repeatedly break these terms, we may suspend or close your account.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms and will change the date at the top. We will give notice of significant changes on the website or in the app before they take effect. If you keep using HeadLingo after a change takes effect, you accept it; if you don't agree, you can cancel your subscription and stop using the service.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you are a consumer living elsewhere, you keep the mandatory protections of the law where you live and may bring proceedings in your local courts.

Language

These terms are available in Chinese and English. If the two versions differ, the English version prevails.
